Our Aim:

Promoting the mental health
of pupils

Especially in the Case of Parental Mental Illness

through
psychoeducational
teaching
programmes

by
qualifying
teachers

by
building a supportive
school culture

Prevention and health promotion should be of benefit to all members of the school community.

The open approach makes it easier to reach out to vulnerable groups
and improves the mental health of all school members in the long term.

Current Project

‘ALLES’

Mindful Teaching and Learning – Emotional Safety at School

(12.2023 – 11.2025)

The project ALLES is primarily aimed at schools and promotes safe learning environments.

The three work packages

Raising awareness among teachers, other school staff and the social environment

Designing lessons on mental health and stress management topics

Changing the school culture in terms of activating resources, promoting relationships and creating networks

are intended to achieve sustainable effects.

ALLES – a school project to promote equal opportunities, equal access, inclusion, diversity and fairness which aims to reduce educational disadvantage and prevent early school leaving.

To achieve these goals, an international project structure has been created that offers the opportunity for cooperation and best practice at European level, so that schools can learn from each other.

The resulting programme provides knowledge on the following key topics:

  • Digital media use and mental health
  • Emotions
  • Child protection
  • Children of parents with mental health problems
  • Mental health / mental illness
  • Bullying
  • Shame
  • Stress & coping

Specific educational programmes that include the above have a lasting influence on the school culture and change it.
The project is currently taking place at selected primary and secondary schools in the cities of Berlin, Vienna, Barcelona, Reykjavik and Milan.

The project focuses primarily on training and empowering teachers on the topics of mental health, but also on recognising and communicating factors that promote mental health, as well as recognising risk factors within schools. The ‘whole school approach’ ensures that the programme reaches the entire school.

The entire project is scientifically accompanied by the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany).

ALLES is funded by the EU within the framework of ERASMUS+.

ALLES builds on the positive experiences of its predecessor projects ‘Mindful Schools’ and ‘PASS’,
in which children with parents with mental health problems receive support
in the context of a school-wide ERASMUS+ approach.

ALLES follows a broader approach that includes further teaching content related to mental health for both primary and secondary schools
and as part of which an training curriculum for teachers and other school staff is being developed.

‘PASS’

Primary Mindful Schools

(01.2023 – 02.2024)

The aim of the project was to promote the mental health of pupils through psychoeducational programmes in the classroom.

It focused on qualifying teachers in relation to mental illness and resilience development as well as establishing a supportive school culture for the 3rd and 4th grades of primary schools.
Here, the educational disadvantage of children from high-risk families with parents with mental illness was tackled and challenges such as reduced learning success, school absenteeism and social exclusion were addressed.

The project offered low-threshold and preventative support that avoided stigmatisation and took into account the special needs of schools and pupils.
The programme was aimed at primary schools, their teachers and educational staff.

Together with project members, teachers and educational staff, teaching units on resilience development in the primary school sector, mental illness and health (considering knowledge deficits regarding mental distress) and information on how to deal with classroom-related behavioural problems were offered at primary schools in various countries such as Germany, Spain, Italy and Iceland.

‘Mindful Schools’

(03.2022 – 12.2022)

Mindful Schools – a project to promote mental health with psychoeducational teaching programmes.

It was implemented at various international schools in Berlin, Barcelona and Reykjavik, with prior training for teachers, educational staff and school employees. The target group was grades 7 to 11 (secondary school), with the focus on topics such as promoting resilience, self-esteem, personal needs, stress, bullying, school anxiety, mental illness and problems at home, that were discussed in workshops, study groups and teaching units, as well as on cooperative dialogue.

The aim was to create an opportunity to develop a mindful school culture by providing concrete ways of taking action as well as materials and to continue developing school in the sense of a mindful school culture.
